Durango, CO – Local Paddling Film Festival in combination with the Annual Reel Paddling Film Festival returns again this year to the Smiley Building Theater on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 6:30 pm (doors open at 6:00 pm).
LOCAL PADDLING FILMS FESTIVAL OPENS ANIMAS RIVER DAYS

Come join us for the 2nd Annual "Local Adventure Media Contest" at the Animas River Days kickoff party on June 8, 2012 (Smiley Building, 1309 East Third Ave, Durango, CO).
The River Days kickoff party features the best of local adventures, with a local photo and video competition, and special categories for kids and families. Durango paddlers have some amazing adventures both locally and far afield. Local productions were the hit of last years festival.
Our Local Paddlesport Film fest will celebrate the:
- Best Family Boating Image
- Best River Image from Southwest Colorado
- Best Short Film
- Kids River Safety-Fun Poster Contest
*Entries must be received by June 1st for consideration. Winning photos and posters will be displayed during the Reel Festival on Friday night. Media Contest Entry Form
"Kids River Safety-Fun Poster Contest" - It's simple! Make a poster with the theme of River Health, Fun, and Safety on a half sized poster board. There are no guidelines or rules just make sure you do your best and bring it with you to the festival! The posters will be displayed on Friday night and the winner will be announced. Kids under 12 with a poster receive free entry to the film festival!
The local adventure media contest is combined with the Annual Reel Paddling Film Festival and presented by San Juan Citizens Alliance.

The Reel Paddling Film Festival is an international film tour presenting the world’s best whitewater, sea kayaking, canoeing, SUP and kayak fishing action and lifestyle films of the year on screens in 100 cities across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Europe.
With 34 inspiring paddling films short-listed for the World Tour, including the ten festival category winners, audiences can expect to see stand-up paddle surfing, hairy whitewater action, sea kayakers exploring remote coastlines, headwaters canoe expeditions, international river travel films, motivating environmental documentaries, grueling kayak fishing battles and hilarious short films capturing the lighter side of paddling life.
